When did ‘family approval’ become a prerequisite for love in arranged marriages?

Navigating the modern dating scene in India is a balancing act. On one hand, you have the freedom to choose your partner, but on the other, family expectations and societal norms can be a powerful force. Many women find themselves in a tough spot: wanting to respect their elders while also asserting their own choices. The pressure to conform and secure family approval before even announcing a relationship can be stifling. It’s a quiet dilemma many face, where personal happiness seems to clash with traditional values. Do we need to redefine what a successful relationship looks like, one that includes the entire family from day one, or should the focus remain solely on the couple’s happiness?
